MANKHIM
Towering
over the village
of Dalapchand
is the scenically beautiful hilltop destination known as Mankhim.
the
village of Dalapchand under the Rongli Sub-Division
of Eastern Sikkim. Mankhim offers a panoramic view of Mt. Kanchenjungha
and the emerald green “boot-shaped” Lampokhri
Lake at the same time –
this incredible view is not available from Aritar. In Mankhim, there is a small
temple on the hilltop, a few homestays and a monastery, just a walk away.
ARITAR LAKE
Lampokhari Lake is popularly known as the Aritar Lake
among natives. It is counted among the oldest natural lakes of Sikkim. Located
at a height of around 1,400 m, this lake is in the shape of human foot.
Surrounded by dense forests, tourists can enjoy the beautiful view
PADAMCHEN
Padamchen
is a small village on the Silk
Route circuit just 14 kms from Rongli and 10 kms
from Zuluk. Padamchen experiences a very pleasant weather throughout the year
and this is one of the main reasons for its popularity
NATHANG
VALLY
Nathang Valley, also known as Gnathang Valley
is a high-altitude plateau in East Sikkim.
Located at an altitude of 13,500 feet above sea level and flanked by mountains
on all sides, this is a remote valley with a meandering stream crisscrossing
it. Nathang is the highest location to stay in the Indian part of the Old Silk Route. Nathang Valley is the most scenic destination in
the whole of Old Silk Route
and the sunrise points of Lungthung and Eagles Nest Bunker are only 5 kms from
here.
LUNGTHUNG
The village of Lunghthung-Dhupidara
located at almost 11,500 feet is perched on a hilltop with panoramic views of Mt. Kanchenjungha
on one side and the winding
roads of Zuluk on the other. Thambi View Point which offers a great
bird’s eye view of Mt. Kanchenjungha and the whole of Eastern
Himalayas is within a kilometre of Lunthung–Dhupidara village.
From January to April the whole of Lungthung–Dhupidara is virtually buried in
snow and the only colour you can see is white. The mountain slopes and valleys
are drenched in a riot of colours around Lungthung–Dhupidara from July to
September when the wild flowers bloom. There are few homestays in
Lungthung–Dhupidara which has recently been made available to the tourists.
ZULUK
Zuluk is a
hilltop and a transit point within the Silk Route. The road through Zuluk makes
almost 32 hairpin turns to reach Lungthung, which makes it a unique engineering
feat. There is a local Nag
Temple here. The temple
has a cave like structure and the deity of King Cobra or Nag, famous Hindu
mythical god is worshipped in the temple. Another great attraction of Zuluk
lies in watching the sunrise over Mt.
Kanchenjungha and its
allied peaks from Thambi View Point (around 14 kms away) at 11,200 feet. The
glittering rays of the rising sun kisses the snow clad peak of Mt. Kanchenjungha,
which slowly turns crimson and then golden and finally silver. The spectacle is
truly breathtaking. While staying at Zuluk you can cover
RESHIKHOLA
Reshikhola is a riverside
destination just 37 km from Kalimpong and very near to Pedong. The little village of Reshikhola
received its name from the Reshi River
running along this small place. In Nepali language ‘Khola’ means ‘small
stream’. The place falls in between West Bengal and Sikkim creating a division between
the two states. Like all other rivulets crisscrossing the sub-Himalayan range,
the Reshi river coast is strewn with rocks and boulders with stream waters
gushing around them. The river valley is surrounded by forests which are home
to numerous birds and occasional bigger visitors like bears. Some basic
homestays with nice modern facilities have come up along the Reshi riverside
